OFFICIAL PRAYER FOR THE 21st PLENARY

As the Catholic Church in Eastern Africa prepares for the 21st Plenary Assembly of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), scheduled to take place in Kenya from 18 to 26 July, the people of God are invited to pray for God’s guidance for the planning, discussions, and outcomes of the regional gathering.

The upcoming AMECEA Plenary Assembly will place young people at the centre of its deliberations, examining how the Church can journey with them amid challenges such as unemployment, social exclusion, migration, and political instability, under the theme “AMECEA’s Synodal Journey with Young People: Building Bridges of Communion, Hope, Justice, and Good Governance.”

    THE PRAYER

God our Father, Creator of heaven and earth, we thank you for calling us to be your People of God in the AMECEA region. Through Baptism, we share equal dignity as your sons and daughters. Grant us the grace to walk together in communion, participation, and mission as a synodal Church.

May our Lord Jesus Christ, who walked with the disciples to Emmaus and opened their eyes to recognize you, teach us to listen deeply to one another and discern your will together. May we embrace the conversion of our hearts, relationships, processes, and bonds. May we recognize the diverse gifts of all the baptized and love one another as you loved us.

May the Holy Spirit guide our synodal journey with the youth. We entrust to her the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly. Grant us wisdom to apply the Final Document on Synodality in our local contexts, courage to embrace conversion, and patience to walk this gradual path. Transform our dioceses and parishes into true schools of synodality where every voice is heard and valued. Make our Church a living reflection of your love. May no one feel excluded or voiceless. May our synodal journey bear abundant fruit for the evangelization of our peoples and the renewal of the whole Church.

May your name be praised and glorified forever and ever, Amen.

Our Lady of Africa, Pray for us.
